The Guillotine shorty I designed for myself to get back into riding high performance shortboards, after being stuck riding bigger boards for years following 2 hip replacements.

Initially when I went back to my normal HP shortboards (Golden boy/Pinapple Express) they felt very loose and fidgety and lacking flow and drive. Surfing glidey mid twins for too long will do this to everyone I think.

The plan was to try to come up with a flatter rockered Shortboard that incorporated the Guillotines quad concave to create a board that had all the speed of my twins, and from the first iteration it worked like a dream, I took it on my next 3 indo trips and surfed basically nothing else.

The Guillotine shorty has a much lower rocker than standard shortboards, particularly in the tail, this combined with the Guillotines quad concave gives it loads of drive as soon as you plant the feet. The prominent contour also gives a huge amount of grip on rail making it a carving beast.

Its general proportions are half way between groveller and HP shorty where it carries a lot more volume through its nose in its foil and plan shape, with a slightly wider tail as well, this makes it a really good paddler and takes a lot of that shortboard twitchiness away.

For me it’s my go to board for 3-4ft reefs and beaches, I ride it as a thruster, but have done quad versions which do work well if that’s your preference.
